HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT STRAP FOR YOUR WATCH

Your watch strap can make or break your watch. A watch is no longer just a device to tell time; it’s a statement of who you are. When you choose a watch, you base your decision on your personality and how it makes you feel. However, while there are many options for watches, sadly, the same effort is not often put into watch straps by many brands. Even renowned names like Tissot, Omega, Longines, Rado, Seiko, Titan, and Tag Heuer often offer run-of-the-mill straps that don’t add much to the watch.
At HEllO, we aim to create watch straps that help you play with your watches and express your true self. But it’s important to choose the right strap for your watch. Here are the most important factors to consider when buying a watch strap for your cherished timepiece:
1. Lug Width
The distance between the two lugs of your watch must match the strap width. A smaller strap risks a loose fit and the watch falling off, while a larger strap won't fit.
2. Taper
Most straps taper slightly. An 18mm watch strap usually tapers to 16mm, a 20mm strap tapers to 18 or 16mm, and a 22mm strap tapers to either 20 or 18mm. A wider taper works well on chunky, tool watches, whereas a narrower taper suits dress watches.
3. Material
The material of the strap is where the fun begins. HEllO watch straps come in a variety of materials like plain and textured leather, sailcloth, Harris Tweed, Khadi, FKM rubber, and more. Feel free to experiment as long as there is synergy between the watch and the strap.
4. Leather Quality
When choosing a leather strap, avoid misleading terms like ‘genuine leather,’ which often refers to leather created from wastage pulp. It’s neither durable nor aesthetically pleasing. At HEllO, we use only authentic leather from some of the best LWG-certified tanneries in India and Italy.
5. Length
It’s always a good idea to check your wrist circumference before buying a watch strap. If it is between 6.25 to 8 inches, HEllO straps will fit you perfectly.
6. Lining
A good strap never compromises on the lining. Most of our linings are made with
sweat-resistant and skin-friendly leather. We haven’t had a single complaint of skin rashes or itching in our four years of existence. If you don’t sweat much, you can choose straps with nubuck lining, which adds a bit of softness to the experience.
7. Colour
It’s great to see watch lovers experimenting with unconventional watch and strap combinations. HEllO straps offer the variety you need to choose what works best for your watch, personality, and occasion. The same watch can be dressed up or down with the right strap colour. Don’t be shy to experiment; in the end, do whatever floats your boat.
